Exploring Aluminum & Copper: Metal Steam Deck Buttons

About a year ago I teased these buttons live on stream, and after lots of testing and tweaking they are finally ready for release!

A Blend of Metal and Resin

What makes these buttons unique is the hybrid blend of materials. The aluminum and copper not only add a premium weight and feel but also offer a lot of flexibility when it comes to finishing touches. You’re not stuck with just one look—you can choose to go polished, brushed, or even add your own patina for that aged, weathered style.  Excited to see what people come up with for these.

Your Finish, Your Choice

One of the coolest things about these buttons is that they come ready for you to modify. If you want a high-shine finish, you can polish them up. If you prefer something more industrial or understated, a brushed or matte finish could be more your speed. And for those who like a bit of character, letting them naturally patina will create a completely unique look over time. You can even force the patina using salt and vinegar!

Why Metal?

Aluminum and copper bring an exciting tactile quality that hasn't been done yet. They’re cool to the touch, a little heavier, and they wear in rather than wear out. Over time, these materials develop their own unique marks and personality, which makes them feel more personal and lived-in.

And to tie it all in.

Something so nuanced really called for a proper video.  It's been a long time since I was consistently cranking out videos during the controller days, so this admittedly took me a lot longer than I had expected.  Lots of reshoots, lighting changes, and last min clips created while editing.  I expect this process to get easier over time as I dedicate more time to it.
